Why choose a curriculum approach to developing education?
.... everyday, in every training event, every participant is learning and achieving.
A curriculum framework is an organised plan or set of standards or learning outcomes that defines the content to be learned in terms of clear, definable standards of what staff should know and be able to do. A Curriculum Framework is part of outcome-based education design.
Organisational Curriculum in HNE will be based on Excellence, HNE Values, National Standards and Patient Centred Care. It will set out what all staff should know, understand, value and be able to do as a result of the programs they undertake in Hunter New England Health. Its fundamental purpose is to provide a structure around which HNE educators can build educational programs that ensure staff achieve agreed outcomes.
By using a curriculum approach to educational design in HNE we ensure that;
the right educators in any given field,
- are working together to share ideas and contribute - all of the right people are at the table
- have a common goal and understanding of content and outcomes
- Share the load :o)
the organisation and staff benefit because;
- duplication of resources is minimised
- education is standardised, consistent and of a high quality
- reporting is reliable and accurate
Register your curriculum
There is no formal process for registering a full curriculum, however ideally the Clinical Lead for each specialty should be aware of, and sponsor that education. Please ensure your relevant Clinical lead has authorised your education before applying to register individual courses (applying for a Pathlore code) with OCL.
